Team Principal Wolff has guided Mercedes to record-breaking achievements in F1

Toto Wolff is engaged in advanced talks to sell part of his shareholding in the Mercedes F1 outfit.

The deal estimates Mercedes at £4.6bn – an unprecedented figure for a Formula 1 squad – following McLaren was appraised at £3.5 billion in an adjustment to corporate structure last September.

The Austrian executive, who owns one-third of Mercedes F1, would sell a shareholding in the region of five percent.

Wolff, aged 53 would stay on as team principal and chief executive officer if the sale goes through.

Shareholder Breakdown

Remaining partners in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes and chemicals giant Ineos Group, who each also own one-third of the enterprise.

An official representative stated: "We will be making no official statement on this. The governance of the team stays unchanged, and all three partners are dedicated to continued achievements of the brand in Formula One."

Financial Growth

This arrangement signifies a substantial rise in worth of Mercedes F1 since Ineos bought its stake for £208 million in 2022.

The rise reflects the growth in valuations of F1 teams in the past few years due to the growing popularity of Formula 1 globally.

This was also seen in the box-office performance of the F1 movie featuring Brad Pitt, which debuted in summer 2023 and has grossed over $630 million (£458m) at cinemas worldwide.

The film represents Pitt's most successful film and the most successful sports film to date.

Current Performance

Mercedes are second in the constructors' championship, trailing McLaren Racing, with three Grands Prix remaining this season.

Their lead driver British driver George Russell has won 2 of the 21 grands prix so far and is fourth in the individual standings after McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen.

Mercedes won a record eight consecutive team titles and seven drivers' titles, six for Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, from 2014 and 2021.
